For Bob Karp, photojournalism has always been about capturing the spirit of people and places, chronicling history, inspiring.

Bob’s career started at Syracuse University, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art and photography. His first job was at the Albany Bureau of United Press International. From there he went on to The Auburn Citizen, North Jersey Herald News, New York Newsday and the Newark, New Jersey bureau of the Associated Press.

Through the years his work has been published in newspapers around the globe, in magazines such as Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated, Bob has also had his images featured worldwide on CNN.

Currently Photo Editor at the Daily Record in Parsippany, New Jersey where as a staff photographer, Bob has documented the aftermath of the 1999 earthquake in Colombia and in 2000 traveled to Panama to photograph the turning over of the Panama Canal. Through his viewfinder he has seen and recorded Spring training for the Mets and the Yankees, the swearing in of the 104th Congress, the 2000 Presidential inauguration, and the pro-life rallies marking the 30th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade on the National Mall.

A former competitive runner, Ironman triathlete and veteran of over 25 marathons, he has covered a number of events for Triathlete Magazine, including the Ironman Triathlon Championships in Hawaii and the National Duathlon Championships in California. In 1994 and 1997 he ran the New York City Marathon with camera and documented the race from the inside.

In 2005, Bob was asked to participate in the Heart Gallery of New Jersey, where he joined the ranks of some of the world’s best photographers to take portraits of hard-to-place foster children in need of permanent homes. This massive volunteer effort culminates in an exhibit of portraits that will travel the state in the hope the images will win the hearts of potential parents.

Also last year, Bob embarked on his first book project with author and fellow journalist Lorraine Ash. In pictures and words, they are presenting the grand, fascinating and eye-opening diversity of the world of natural healers across America.

His images have won national, state and regional awards from the Associated Press, the National Press Photographers Association and the New Jersey Press Photographers Association.
